Secretary of State, Term of Appointment: 01/26/2005 to present

Dr. Condoleezza Rice became Secretary of State on January 26, 2005. Prior to this, she was the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, commonly referred to as the National Security Advisor, since January 2001.

In June 1999, she completed a 6-year tenure as Stanford University 's Provost, during which she was the institution's chief budget and academic officer. As Provost she was responsible for a $1.5 billion annual budget and the academic program involving 1,400 faculty members and 14,000 students.

As professor of political science, Dr. Rice has been on the Stanford faculty since 1981 and has won two of the highest teaching honors -- the 1984 Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 1993 School of Humanities and Sciences Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching.

At Stanford, she has been a member of the Center for International Security and Arms Control, a Senior Fellow of the Institute for International Studies, and a Fellow (by courtesy) of the Hoover Institution. Her books include Germany Unified and Europe Transformed (1995) with Philip Zelikow, The Gorbachev Era (1986) with Alexander Dallin, and Uncertain Allegiance: The Soviet Union and the Czechoslovak Army (1984). She also has written numerous articles on Soviet and East European foreign and defense policy, and has addressed audiences in settings ranging from the U.S. Ambassador's Residence in Moscow to the Commonwealth Club to the 1992 and 2000 Republican National Conventions.

From 1989 through March 1991, the period of German reunification and the final days of the Soviet Union, she served in the Bush Administration as Director, and then Senior Director, of Soviet and East European Affairs in the National Security Council, and a Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. In 1986, while an international affairs fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, she served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 1997, she served on the Federal Advisory Committee on Gender -- Integrated Training in the Military.

She was a member of the boards of directors for the Chevron Corporation, the Charles Schwab Corporation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the University of Notre Dame, the International Advisory Council of J.P. Morgan and the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors. She was a Founding Board member of the Center for a New Generation, an educational support fund for schools in East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park, California and was Vice President of the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula. In addition, her past board service has encompassed such organizations as Transamerica Corporation, Hewlett Packard, the Carnegie Corporation, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Rand Corporation, the National Council for Soviet and East European Studies, the Mid-Peninsula Urban Coalition and KQED, public broadcasting for San Francisco.

Born November 14, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama, she earned her bachelor's degree in political science, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Denver in 1974; her master's from the University of Notre Dame in 1975; and her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver in 1981. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has been awarded honorary doctorates from Morehouse College in 1991, the University of Alabama in 1994, the University of Notre Dame in 1995, the National Defense University in 2002, the Mississippi College School of Law in 2003, the University of Louisville and Michigan State University in 2004, and Boston College in 2006. She resides in Washington, DC .

دکترکاندولیزا رایس در26 ژانویه2005 به وزارت خارجه آمریکا منصوب شد قبل از آن نیز معاون رئیس جمهور در امور امنیت ملی و همچنین مشاور امنیتی رئیس جمهور از تاریخ ژانویه2001 بود در ژوئن 1999بعد از 6سال تصدی ریاست دانشگاه استنفوردکه مسئولیت سنگین بودجه و آموزش آکادمیک را نیز بر عهده داشت در زمان ریاست ایشان او با 5/1 میلیارد دلاربودجه سالیانه و برنامه آکادمیک پیچیده برای1400عضوهیت علمی و 14000دانشجو از موارد مدیریتی ایشان بود.

دکتر رایس استاد علوم سیاسی عضو هیت علمی دانشگاه استنفورد از سال 1981 دارنده دو عنوان عالی آموزشی را یکی  در سال 1984 جایزه والترجی گورسWalter J. Gores) (برای برتری آموزشی در سال 1993 دومین جایزه از روسای دانشگاه انسان و علوم برای برای آموزش طراز اول است.

در استفورد او عضو مرکز امنیت بین الملل و کنترل تسلیحاتی و همچنین عضو ارشد موسسه مطالعاتی درامور بین الملل و عضو افتخاری بنیاد هاور(رئیس جمهور دهه ی بیست میلادی آمریکا)بود.

کتابهای او شامل بود: اتحاد آلمان و دگرگونی اروپا در سال 1995 که با فیلیپ زلیکو (Philip zelikow) کتاب دیگری به نام نقطه عطف گورباچف در سال 1986 با الکساندر دالیان ((Alexander Dallin وکتاب پیمان مبهم : ارتش اتحاد جماهیر شوروی و چکسلواکی در سال 1984 همچنین مقالات زیادی در مورد سیاست خارجی و دفاعی شوروی و اروپای شرقی به نگارش در آورده است او بین سالهای 1992 تا 2000 سخنرانی های دامنه داری را در جاهای مختلف از جمله محل اقامت سفیر آمریکا در مسکو و در باشگاه کشور های مشترک منافع و گردهمایی های ملی جمهوری خواهان انجام داده است.

از سال 1989 تا مارس 1991یعنی از اتحاد دو آلمان تا فروپاشی شوروی در دولت بوش پدر یکی از مقالات ارشددر امور شوروی و اروپای شرقی شورای امنیت ملی بود .در 1986 عضو بخش امور بین الملل شورای روابط خارجی و معاون ویژه رئیس ستاد مشترک فرماندهی را بر عهده داشت.

در سال 1997 در کمیته مشورتی فدرال جنسیتی که یکسان سازی آموزش نظامی رابر عهده شرکت داشت. خانم رایس  عضو انجمن های مختلف است مانند سرپرست موسسه نشان ودرجه عضو موسسه شارل شواب و عضو بنیاد ویلیام و فلورا هیولت همچنین عضوشورای مشورتی بین الملل جی پی مورگان و عضو دانشگاه روتردام وعضو شورای مدیریت هماهنگی سانفراسیسکواست. دکتر رایس مشاوراعضای موسسه مرکز ابداعات نو وحامی مالی مر کز آموزشی پالو آلتو شرقی و منلو پارک شرقی کالیفرنیا است. او همچنین معاون رئیس جمهور در باشگاه دختران و پسران پنینسولا(Peninsula) را بر عهده دارد.

دکتر رایس قبل از این هم مشاور چندین موسسه و سازمان منجمله موسسه ترانس آمریکا، موسسه هیولت پاکارد و موسسه کارنیج و مو فوقات کارنیج در امور صلح بین الملل و موسسه رند و شورای ملی مطالعاتی شوروی واروپای شرقی همچنین  دراتحادیه مدنی مید پنینسولا و در KQEDو در هیت انتخاباتی عمومی سان فرانسیسکو بوده است.

دکتر رایس 14 نوامبر 1954 در بیر منگام در ایالت آلاباما متولد شد . او درجه لیسانس در رشته علوم سیاسی از دانشگاه دنور در سال 1974 فوق لیسانس خود را در سال 1975 در دانشگاه نوتردام و بالاخره Ph.Dاز دانشکده مطالعاتی بین المللی دانشگاه دنور در سال 1981 اخذ نمودند همکنون عضو آکادمی هنر وعلوم است دکتر رایس دارای دکترای افتخاری از کالح مور هانس در سال 1991 و در سال 1994از دانشگاه آلاباما در سال 1995 از دانشگاه نوتر دام در سال 2002 از دانشگاه دفاع ملی در سال 2003 از دانشکده حقوق کا لج می سی سی پی ودر سال 2004 از دانشگاه لویس ویلا و دانشگاه ایالتی میشیگان بالاخره در سال 2006 از کا لج بستون به این افتخار نائل آمده است او همکنون در واشنگتن اقامت دارد.
